Every great neighborhood deserves a great flag
The flag of this East Denver neighborhood thoughtfully pays tribute to its founders, Matthias P. Cochrane of New Jersey and Baron Walter von Richthofen of Germany, through its color scheme. The opposing quadrants in the flag poignantly capture the historical tension that the neighborhood faced in the early 1900s when it vigorously opposed annexation into Denver, even taking the matter to the Supreme Court.
The central icon, the cupola of von Richthofen's "Molkery," serves as a representative symbol of the "TB houses" in the area, designed to accommodate tuberculosis sufferers. This flag artfully encapsulates the neighborhood's intricate history, honoring its founders, reflecting its struggle against annexation, and commemorating its role in providing care to those in need during a challenging time.
